A BABY WAS BORN
On February 1st, 2002 at 8:41 in the morning, a healthy and beautiful girl was born. Her name is Diana Melissa. We welcomed her with happiness and great enthousiasm into our walden-communitarian family. Like all newborns in the community, she is taken care of mainly by her biological parents Cesar and Busi although the rest of members help to take care of her.
Note.
In the comunitarian-walden family practice biological parentsare the ones who have closer contact with the baby duringthe first months because the mothe breastfeeds the infant and the father is close by. However, the rest of the members (men, women and children) hold her, talk to her, change her diapers and help to bath her.When the baby starts drinking bottle or eating other foods, other members besides the biological parents also feed her. In this way the baby associates food with other people, faces, voices and other kinds of physical and verbal afections. All these stimuli come to funciton, by association, as positive reinforcers- pleasant things.
In the communitarian-walden family practice children are not separated from their parents, just the care and affection links are extended to other persons (adults and children) independently of them being biologically related with the baby or not.
We do not place babies in a box crib with controlled temperature, etc like Skinner did with her daughter in the air crib he designed for her. We do not do it not because we think it is not apporpriate (in no way we think so) but because we do not need it. The rooms we presently have are comfortable enough for babies. In respect to higiene we keep babies clean. In respect to clothing, we do not dress them uncomfortably.
Walden Two week 2002
During the holly week 2002 we will have an event to which all those people interested in knowing better Los Horcones is invited. Although this event is directed to spanish speaking people, everybody is welcome.
