INVITATION

WALDEN TWO WEEK

April 11-20, 2003

Dear friends:

We invite you to participate in the Walden Two week, which will be held at Los Horcones community during the Holly week. You can socialize with us the whole week, from Friday 11th to Sunday 20th, April 2003, or you can be with us for one or many days in this week depending on your possibilities.

Living in Los Horcones you'll know what it's like to live in the community, in a cooperative, pacifist and egalitarian way. You'll be able to reflect about you lifestyle and compare it to a communitarian lifestyle. We invite you to take advantage of the days of holy week to reflect and have fun.

There will be to be lectures, reflections, community work activities, fun events and sports.

You will also learn about the behaviorist (humanist) philosophy in which this community is based on, and about the ways in which behavior principles are applied to the design of a culture. Moreover, you will have the opportunity to share what you know and enjoy the cooperative work while in communion with nature.

If you want to participate you need to:

-Pay a fee as soon as you come

-Bring the right clothes for wilderness

-Bring a sleeping bag and bed sheets

-Towels and grooming items

-If you play a musical instrument, bring it

*Although the community has rooms for you to stay, sometimes visitors prefer to sleep in tents, for that, you can bring one or rent it at Los Horcones.

Work

For fun purposes and socializing it's required that each participant cooperate in community work, from 2 or 4 hours per day (jobs vary).

Room and Board

The community provides room and board.

Los Horcones has a small store that sells snacks and beverages. (No liquor is sold; neither is allowed to bring your own liquor).

Location

Los Horcones is located on Highway #16 to the southeast; it is the road to Yécora or Chihuahua (it used to be the road to Tecoripa). The community is located on Km. 63 on the road to Yécora, about 9 miles ahead of a village called La Colorada.

*The road is in fairly good condition.

Transportation

By car coming from USA:

First you need to get to Hermosillo, the capital city of Sonora. We suggest you to enter Mexico through Nogales Arizona (even if you are driving from California). There is a good freeway Nogales-Hermosillo. Nogales is one-hour drive south from Tucson and 3 hours from Phoenix. Nogales Arizona borders with a Mexican town also named Nogales in the state of Sonora. Nogales is about 3hour drive from Hermosillo. There is a paying road, which is in better conditions.

Once you are in Hermosillo you will take highway 16 to the southwest to Los Horcones for another 39.5 miles (see the map). Keep on highway 16, you will pass in front the FORD plant, later you will cross a train track, will pass in front of a huge cement plant,(9 miles) then you will drive by a small village called "La Colorada"(23 more miles) and about 7-8 miles ahead you will read the Los Horcones sign on your right. Enter the main gate and follow the dirt road for less than half a mile, enter a second gate and shortly you will see the parking lot sign. Then you made it! You are in Los Horcones and we welcome you.

By Bus:

There are direct buses from USA to Mexico so you do not have to change buses in Mexico. These buses are called "Cruiser" (Cru cero in Spanish) and you take them in the same Greyhound bus station in Arizona (Nogales, Tucson or Phoenix) or from Los Angeles California. They are the best choice because when you cross the border all the passengers get down the bus with their luggage and form a line to pass a quick revision, then you continue on the same bus until you get to Thermopile. The price from Tucson to Hermosillo is about 30 dollars. From Tucson they usually leave every 2 hours (7-9-11-1-3-5-7-9).

Once in Hermosillo you can take any of the following buses:

-One block to the main bus station there is this small bus station "TBC" from where you can take an early bus that take you to Los Horcones.

-To Yécora, departs daily at 7:00 a.m. Cost $35.00 pesos.

From the main bus station:

-To Suaqui Grande: Monday through Saturday departs at 3:30 p.m., Cost $35:00 pesos.

From a supermarket mall called " VH Plaza Sur" located in the south of the city, departs the latest bus:

-To Ónavas: Monday to Saturday at 4:30 p.m. (except el Sunday). Cost $35:00 pesos.

All these buses leave you at the main gait of Los Horcones, there is a dirt road (less than half a mile) to the building area.

Tell the bus driver you want to get down at Los Horcones because if they do not know they do not stop.

Bus schedule from Los Horcones back to Hermosillo:

From Los Horcones you can catch two buses to Hermosillo, one at 7:40 a.m. and another at 9:00 a.m. everyday except sundays. Ocasionally there is another bus at 5:30 p.m.

By Taxi

The least a Taxi charges from Hermosillo a Los Horcones is $450.00 pesos (if you find something cheaper, that's fine!).

Note. Taxis that you take right at the bus station or airport are more expensive than Taxis you find downtown or some place else.
